Now, Jill Franco Miller is going to take on a new challenge, that of a real estate agent.
Miller recently joined Tracy Hatchell and her team at Carolina One Real Estate?s Summerville Main Street office, according to the locally based brokerage.
An Atlanta native, Miller spent 25 years as print and broadcast journalist. She graduated from the University of Georgia School of Journalism in 1977. All but seven of those years she worked at various times for three Charleston network TV stations ? WCBD, WCIV and WCSC ? where she anchored and was a reporter on the 6 and 11 o?clock news.
She specialized in investigative, political and government reporting. In 1987, Miller was named Broadcast Journalist of the Year, according to Carolina One.
While at WCSC-TV, she received an Emmy Award in 1999 for Best Newscast of the Year.
Miller left broadcasting in 2002. From there, she served as executive director and public information officer for the Charleston County Board of Elections and Voter Registration and then as executive director of the S.C. Republican Party Commerce Caucus.
She has a real estate background, gaining her real estate license in 1991 and helping home buyers and sellers to list and sell homes.
?I, along with the Tracy Hatchell team feel so fortunate to have someone with Jill Miller?s talent and experience as part of our wonderful group of real estate professionals,? says Christina Ellis, broker-in-charge of the Main Street office.

Rental outlook continues to show strength
It?s only been a month, but metro Charleston is on pace to set a year?s record for rentals in 2012.
The findings come from the Charleston Rental Market Snapshot, compiled by Carolina One Real Estate.
According to the snapshot, 386 properties rented this January, compared with 362 a year before. That is a nearly 7 percent increase, the brokerage says.
There are 970 properties active in the area Multiple Listing Service, which leaves inventory of just 2.5 months. ?The potential for record numbers in the first quarter is high,? according to the snapshot.
A sizable share of the leased properties are single family homes, with 324 so far this year. Next comes 91 condominiums rented and 86 town homes. The median monthly rent is $1,200, same as in the most recent survey before the fourth quarter results.
Acording to the snapshot, demand may drive rents up as the year progresses.

Besides watching on TV, there aren?t that many ways to witness golf?s 2012 PGA Championship taking place at the Ocean Course on Kiawah Island.

The sprawling house at 36 Ocean Course Drive is for sale for $8 million. It is located alongside the golf course, which will host the 2012 PGA Championship in August.
You could be one of the lucky fans who bought tickets or be invited to a corporate suite. Or, you could always buy a house on the course, say for $8 million?
No house on the market sits as close to the golf layout as 36 Ocean Course Drive, according to listing agency Akers Ellis Real Estate and Rentals.
Just in time for the tournament, the home has been reduced by $2.5 million, the company says.
?The 8,700 square foot estate boasts sweeping vistas of the Atlantic Ocean and the back nine of the Ocean Course including the 18th tee, fairway and green,? according to Akers Ellis.
Ten rooms in the house have views of the course. That includes the master retreat, which takes up the whole third floor. The home?s standout features include an outdoor shower, located on a private porch off the master bathroom. Akers Ellis note that the shower has views of the golf course and ocean.
Jeff Akers, a partner in the Kiawah Island real estate company, recently listed 36 Ocean Course Drive. For more information, visit www.AETrealestate.com, call Akers Ellis Real Estate and Rentals at 843-768-9844 or email Info@AETrealestate.com.
